There are 39 steps down from the canal at the aqueduct on to the road into Market Drayton unfortunately that is as exciting as it gets, no hand over hand hanging from bridges, although I did manage to slip on the way down, nothing new there. We took that route into town and had a good explore around, Frances loves the outlying houses and I am sure it is down as a potential house location when and if our boat adventure comes to an end. The town centre like a lot of similar places is showing signs of the credit crunch with a large number of empty shops and businesses for sale.
The Tudor House hotel was built in 1651 after yet another catastrophic town fire, civilisation at these times must have been one big bonfire. The plaque on the wall says that there is a river running under the foundations, and yes we know this because we were doing our around town multi-cache which had us walking 4.5 miles around the town.
