Folly Bridge Oxford

It seemed a long day yesterday; well I guess it was for us as we haven’t travelled so far for ages. We stopped off at Abingdon for a gas bottle, there wasn’t a single mooring along the stretch of moorings down stream of the bridge, when we were here last we were the only boat. The rain came and went for most of the day and as one lock keeper said you just have to keep going.

When we arrived at the Folly bridge moorings they were full, we had thought that there may have been a space at the boat house end so we turned and headed back only to find that there was an overhanging tree in a very awkward place and also that it was a bit shallow. So we turned again thinking that we would head on through Osney Lock but lo and behold a mooring place had appeared and that is where we are now, someone must have left while we were prating about.

The river here is amazing with loads of people out punting up and down across the main channel of the river, it’s a wonder there are no accidents as we did see one or two that had no idea where they were going and had river traffic halted in both directions as they sorted themselves out.

Today we did 16.71 miles and 6 Locks

Statistics so far:-

660.80 Miles, 495 Locks, 47 Swing Bridges, 27 Lift Bridges, 6 Tunnels.
