Dorchester

July 10, 2009

A beautiful trip along the Thames today, we decided to pass through the places that we spent some time at last year, namely Goring and Wallingford. We have moored up close to Dorchester, where the Thame joins the Thames.

Dorchester is a very picturesque village that boasts a number of public houses which we will investigate later today. At the centre of the village resides a 12th century Abbey.

There was an interesting memorial stone dedicated to a young women who had died a ..’martyr to Excessive Sensibility’. I know how she feels, over the last few days I have been reading Julian Barnes’s ‘Nothing to be Frightened of’, its an essay about death and dying. Today I decided to read Jerome K Jerome’s ‘Three Men in a Boat’ more in keeping with a trip down the Thames, I think.

Between Dorchester and the Thames lie these moulds of earth, they are part of a man made Dyke built to presumably protect Dorchester

We are moored along a high bank and we need to climb down to get into the boat.

BTW the antenna was put up as we were mooring to make sure that we could get the final episode of Torchwood.

Statistics so far:-
